1985年1月28日晚，美国流行歌坛Harry Belafonte，Michael Jackson，Lionel Richie，Bob Dylan，Bob Geldof,，Jackson兄妹，Billy Joel，Cindi Lauper，Kenny Rogers，Bette Midler，Willie Nelson，Diana Ross，Paul Simon，Bruce Springsteen，Tina Turner和Steve Wonder等全美45位红歌星录制.
1985年4月5日，全世界约5000家电台同时播出了《天下一家》。
1985年7月13日在英国伦敦的温布雷体育场和美国费城的肯尼迪体育场同时举行横跨大西洋的生存救援摇滚乐联合大义演，《天下一家》成为这场持续17小时的音乐会的主题歌。
1986年，《天下一家》荣获4项Grammy奖----最佳歌曲、最佳唱片、最佳流行歌曲演唱和最佳录像短片奖。同年，《天下一家》还荣获美国音乐奖中的多项大奖。
