叛逆的摇滚乐队 guns n’ roses 以他们坚韧的punk - meets - heavy - ｍetal 的乐声和坏男孩的姿态在80 年代末赢得了众多的白人男性摇滚乐迷。
乐队在1985 年成立于好莱坞。在完成了他们在好莱坞的gritty rock 俱乐部的合约后，guns n’ roses自己出版了一张ep专辑《live like suicide》。这引起了乐评界和唱片厂商极大的兴趣。乐队于 1986 年与 geffen 公司签约。1987年7月，乐队推出了他们的首张专辑《appetite for destruction》。在3首top10 单曲，“sweet child o’ mine”、“paradise city”和“welcome to the jungle”的推动下，这张专辑升至专辑排行榜的榜首并售出2000 万张。
1988 年，geffen出版了guns n’ roses 的专辑《g n’r lies》，其中包括的乐队的第一张 ep 中的歌并揉进了新的元素。《g n’ r lies》给乐队带来了更大的成功。当专辑登上排行榜第 2 名时，guns n’ roses 成为 80 年代唯一一支同时两张专辑在排行榜中名列前 5 名的乐队。
1993年，乐队推出了 punk 风格的专辑《the spaghetti incident？》。但是这时，grunge 已经将重金属摇滚挤出了舞台，guns n’ roses 一下子显得过时了。《the spaghetti incident？》的销量少得可怜，而乐队也在随后的几年中慢慢的解体了。在1998年底，guns n’ roses 以新得阵容重新回到录音棚着手准备新的专辑。
枪炮与玫瑰乐队最具影响力的曲目是“don't cry”和“november rain”（后面一首歌因出色的歌词获得了美国最佳社会先驱奖），“don't cry”在billboard排行榜上停留将近3年（147）周，创下了摇滚乐的神话。
don't cry这首歌中枪花乐队一改从前的愤怒激烈，主唱沧桑哀婉低吟出一段令人荡气回肠的柔情曲，而歌曲表达出的无奈和失意正是愤怒的极致。不止在歌收尾的地方，在歌起时就有淡淡的的呻吟声，而且在整首歌里拖长的音非常之多，通过加长的鸣来表达一种撕心裂肺的心痛，在mtv版本中，两位主唱的女友皆因他们的不够珍惜而伤心离去，甚至香消玉陨，mtv用很长的篇幅来追忆从前的美好时光，悔恨的心痛表达得淋漓尽致。
值得注意的是，在结尾的鸣中，主唱axl.rose迎着从窗顶透射进的光尘颤抖双手，倏的一只美丽的白鸽振翅而去，或许这鸣中还隐藏着再续前缘的一种奢望
