U2是80年代英国最受欢迎的摇滚乐团，起源于爱尔兰的U2组合从1977年就开始了他们的音乐生涯，当时乐团主要成员还都在都柏林上中学。其中，Bono (即Paul David Hewson，1960年5月10日出生于都柏林，乐手), The Edge (即David Evans，1961年出生于埃塞克斯，吉他手), Adam Clayton (1960年3月13日出生于英格兰牛津郡，男低音)以及Larry Mullen Jr(即Laurence Mullen，1961年是10月31日出生于都柏林，鼓手)最初一段时间曾演奏过滚石及海难男孩乐队的精典曲目，并为乐队起名为Feedback。后来他们还将名字改为Hype，但最终还是在1978年确定为U2。
