Al Green-How Can You Mend A Broken Heart
1946年生于美国阿肯色洲Forrest市的Al Green，9岁时为福音4重唱The Green Brothers 的一员，16岁与高中朋友合唱R&B团Al Green and the Creations，直至1969年受到Hi唱片制作人Willie Mitchell赏识而开始合作，在Hi厂牌的70年代初期，浸染在一片柔滑的灵魂乐中，他连贯起深灵魂与轻柔灵魂的特色融入福音的元素、性感的合音与浓烈的弦乐，树立起自己独有的风格。
上世纪70年代到80年代初，他在孟菲斯的传奇Hi厂牌录制的一系列唱片，完全就是性感灵乐的概念版，其中大部分至今仍可谓永不过时的经典。
说实话，很多歌迷并不认为Al Green的这张专辑很成功，因此它的知名度相对其他专辑而言也并不算很高，尽管这样专辑中也不乏一些值得一听的作品。比如'Everything's Gonna Be Alright'，'Put A Little Love In Your Heart' (with Annie Lennox) 和 'True Love'等等。喜欢Al Green与灵魂乐的朋友绝对不要错过。
被视为美国南方培养出来的最后一位伟大灵魂歌手，艾尔．格林也是七○年代灵魂乐风潮中第一位窜上天王的人物。他只手融合南方灵魂乐与北方的抒情灵魂乐，结合福音歌曲和狂野的叫喊，创造出个人风格却大受欢迎的灵魂演唱风格，影响力不仅及于后来的灵魂歌手，连比他长一辈的灵魂歌手都深受启发。但对大多数死忠的灵魂乐迷而言，七○年代以后，他们几乎失去了艾尔．格林，因为格林的一位女性友人趁他脱衣洗澡时，以滚烫的热沙浇淋他以致严重烫伤，而该友人随后跑到隔房举枪自尽，此事让他宣布从流行乐坛隐退，从事牧师职务，投入宗教。
这以后他在八、九○年代几乎只唱福音歌曲传道（为他赢得八座葛莱美最佳灵魂福音歌曲奖），偶尔虽然会听到他唱节奏蓝调，但他的音乐只愿意作为传教用。这也让他在七○年代早期灌录的那些专辑更被视为经典，拥有着传奇地位。格林在1988年重返节奏蓝调乐坛，再度录制专辑，1994年的复出第二张专辑结合乡村与节奏蓝调，一举拿下九座葛莱美奖，甚至连最佳流行音乐奖也囊括；来年更进入摇滚音乐名人堂，2002年获得葛莱美终生成就奖，两年后进入福音名人堂，同年在滚石杂志的史上百大伟大艺术人排行榜中名列65，超越the Police、Radiohead、the Eagles、Miles Davis、Guns n＇ Roses等知名乐手。
「放下吧！」是格林来到blue note的第三张专辑，距离上一张专辑「Everything＇s OK」已有三年。其最大的特色是请到嬉哈天团「Roots」的Ahmir Thompson 和James Poyser两人担任制作，这两位刻意维持让格林那经典的灵魂歌声忠于他七○年代的佳作，只围绕着这个声音添上一点现代感，所以一些合成器效果全都予以回避，采用非常地道的传统乐器音响伴奏，比起前两张blue note发行的专辑来，这张专辑要显得更地道灵魂乐风。为了这种效果，片[非法语句]别请到一群王牌乐手参与：Mighty Clouds of Joy的吉他手Chalmers “Spanky“ Alford（专辑录完不久即去世）、Dap-Kings Horns。除此之外，「Take Your Time」还请到Corinne Bailey Rae对唱，同样加入对唱的还有「Stay eith Me」中的John Legend。为了创造一种现场的即兴临场感，两位制作人制造一种氛围，成功地让片中大部份的歌曲都能一次录好，不用再剪辑，这样的充份的事前准备，让这张专辑得以展现格林作为灵魂乐天王至今依然巅峰的歌艺与创造力。
