1983年3月10日，Carrie Underwood出生在美国Oklahoma州的小镇Checotah。从几岁大开始，自幼喜爱音乐Carrie Underwood就在家乡Checotah以及家乡附近的教堂的唱诗班中锻炼唱歌。13岁时，Carrie Underwood便录制了自己生平的首张唱片。在参加2005年度第四届美国偶像大赛的时候，Carrie Underwood还只是一名没有毕业的大学生，只是10万预赛选手中不为人知的一位普通的音乐爱好者。由于生性腼腆害羞，因此在参赛的时候，Carrie Underwood大多选择演唱的曲目都是一些乡村音乐歌曲。但凭借出色的唱功和优雅的台风，Carrie Underwood最终战胜了包括来自亚拉巴马的实力强劲的摇滚歌手Bo Bice在内的诸多强手而夺冠，成为美国偶像大赛创办之后，继2002年的Kelly Clarkson，2003年的Ruben Studdard和去年的Fantasia Barrino之后的第四任冠军。
夺冠后首张专辑Some Hearts获得了6白金的销量认证。其中的单曲有Inside Your Heaven, Jesus Take The Wheel, Don’t Forget To Remember Me, Before He Cheats, Wasted都进了billboard前50。
Underwood还在各大乡村音乐大奖上横扫，另外还于2007年获得格莱美两项大奖Best New Artist和Best Female Country Vocal Performance.
