由美国作曲家斯蒂芬·福斯特词曲。这首美国歌曲在我国流传也很广。

《Beautiful dreamer》（美丽的梦神），大约创作于1862年间。当时福斯特其在纽约，经济拮据，生活困顿，在乏人照料之下，日夜思念妻子珍妮，因而写出如此动人的歌曲。因而这首歌的风格比另一首写给珍妮的歌《金发珍妮》更为感伤。《美丽的梦神》不论是歌词或旋律，都是其他思念亲友的歌曲所无法比拟的。这首曲子也是佛斯特创作的民谣歌曲中少有的三拍子歌曲。

美国已故作曲家S.C.福斯特。他的一生虽然非常短暂，仅活了38岁便英年早逝，但据说却创作了280多首歌曲，其中不少仍在美国和一些国家人们中间传唱。

他的歌曲曲调吸收了源自古老的非洲文化和欧洲圣歌的黑人民歌，唱起来给人以真挚纯朴中含带感伤色彩，平稳的节奏中饱含强烈的激情。
