  当我们提起“乡村歌手”的头衔时，通常直觉的反应都必定认为，那应该是美国人，因为“乡村音乐”是非常标准的“美国文化产物”。当然，最近这几年，来自加拿大的仙妮亚唐恩（Shania Twain）也和她的“老前辈”安玛莉（Anne Murray）一样，在国际上打响了超高的知名度。不过，我们经常可能会忽略，在跟美国、加拿大与英国“同文同种”的澳洲，乡村音乐也有着相当广大的市场，只是他们有他们自己的乡村艺人与团体，表演着跟一般人习惯的“美国式乡村”风格不太一样的乡村歌曲。也正是因为如此，来自澳洲的乡村歌手很少能够把触角延伸到澳洲以外的地方。不过，从2001年以来，男歌手凯斯尔本（Keith Urban，以下简称KU）却陆续好几次夺下了全美乡村排行的冠军，光是他在2002年十月推出的“Golden Road”专辑，就已经先后以“Somebody Like You”和“Who Wouldn''''t Wanna Be Me”两度夺魁，甚至被提名角逐CMA的大奖，不让同样来自澳洲的奥莉薇亚纽顿强（Olivia Newton-John）专美于前。

    说现年三十七岁的Keith Urban“来自澳洲”，其实也不是完全正确，因为他出生于纽西兰，不过确实是在澳洲长大的，父亲是个鼓手，在家乡开设一家乐器行。KU六岁那年，一个年轻女人要求在他父亲的橱窗上张贴“吉他教学招生”的广告，他的父母同意了，但提出交换的条件，那个女人得免费指导四岁就开始喜爱音乐的KU，而他很快的就展现了天赋，不到两年后，就开始在许多才艺竞赛中夺得优胜了。而由于父亲热爱美国文化与乡村音乐，小KU很自然的也受到影响，年方七岁，就打定主意，将来要进军纳许维尔。除了吉他课程，他还加入一支少年剧团，学习歌舞与戏剧的表演，对他日后的演艺生涯有着许多的帮助。他从小崇拜葛伦坎伯（Glen Campbell）、桃莉芭顿（Dolly Parton）与唐威廉斯（Don Williams）等著名的乡村巨星，后来又迷上了“险峻海峡”（Dire Straits）的马克诺福勒（Mark Knopfler），以及“佛利伍麦克”（Fleetwood Mac）的林赛白金汉（Lindsey Buckingham）等人独特的吉他演奏风格，于是深入的研究，把他们的技巧融入到自己的表演中。
