歌曲来源及背景

这首歌最晚应该出现于16世纪。1569年 Thomas Preston的剧作《A lamentable tragedy mixed ful of pleasant mirth, conteyning the life of Cambises King of Percia》中歌词是这样的:

They be at hand Sir with stick and fidle;

They can play a new dance called hey-didle-didle.[1]

1597年 Alexander Montgomerie的《 The Cherry and the Slae》写到:

But since you think't an easy thing

To mount above the moon,
Of your own fiddle take a spring
And dance when you have done.[2]

1587年伦敦 "Cat and the Fiddle" 小餐馆非常有名。1765年伦敦出版《Mother Goose's Melody》刊登为距今最早的版本，歌词写到：

Hey diddle diddle,

The Cat and the Fiddle,

The Cow jump'd over the Moon,

The little dog laugh'd to see such Craft,

And the Dish ran away with the Spoon

《Hey diddle diddle》给人印象深刻的那具有幻想色彩的句子 "the Cow jumped over the Moon"! 沃特迪斯尼公司动漫团队深受此儿歌影响，并在作品中多次使用（我搜索了几次都没有看到介绍，也没时间把他的作品全看一遍，有知道的朋友麻烦给个资料）。在莎士比亚的作品<<无事生非>>第三幕中有使用相近的传统民间民谣（ballad）"hey nonny no" 。  'Hey Diddle Diddle' 是由'High Diddle Diddle' 逐步演变（alter）而来。

这个单词不认识的人太少了，不过知道各种表达方式的太少了。当然，我也不知道。它源自古法语desport, deport "pleasure, enjoyment, delight; solace, consolation; favor, privilege," >罗曼英语 disport，最后将disport（嬉戏，玩乐，自娱）缩写为sport。
